How to advertise on ChatGPT: from account access to a reviewed launch

Plan your first ChatGPT Ads campaign, choose a conversion goal, check tracking, and review a paused draft before spending.

A useful first ChatGPT Ads campaign answers one commercial question: can a specific offer reach qualified buyers at a cost your business can support? Start with that question before choosing a bid or writing dozens of ads.

This guide follows a small example campaign for a studio booking service. The amounts and names are illustrative. The workflow separates account access, measurement, campaign preparation, and the decision to start delivery.

1. Confirm access and account settings

Open ChatGPT Ads Manager and check that your business can create campaigns. A ChatGPT subscription or model API key does not establish advertiser eligibility. Available objectives, markets, and account controls can change; the settings visible in your account are the practical starting point.

Record the advertiser account ID, billing currency, timezone, and who can approve spending. In Advarde, connect the advertiser account from your workspace before preparing changes. Choose a recognizable connection name so that an operator working across several clients can distinguish accounts without relying on memory.

2. Define the outcome and the economics

For the studio example, the outcome is a completed consultation booking. A landing-page view is useful for diagnosis, but it is not the business result. Decide whether you will measure bookings, qualified bookings, or attended consultations, and keep those definitions separate in reporting.

Suppose a qualified booking is worth $80 in expected contribution and 4% of ad clicks become qualified bookings. The implied break-even CPC is $3.20 before other acquisition costs. This is an illustrative calculation, not a ChatGPT Ads price forecast. If you cannot state the value and conversion assumptions, use a range and keep the initial test small enough to review.

3. Test measurement before buying traffic

Choose the event that represents the completed action. Install the measurement pixel or a supported server integration, then complete the customer flow yourself. Check the pixel ID, the event name, and when the event fires. A button click and a confirmed booking are different events.

A saved configuration proves that settings exist. A browser event proves that code ran. A receipt shows that an event reached a measurement endpoint. Attributed reporting is a later step and depends on eligible ad interactions and reporting rules. Keep these checks distinct so a green installation check does not become a claim of complete attribution.

  • Test one successful action and a failed or abandoned attempt.
  • Repeat the confirmation page to check for duplicate business events.
  • Verify that the final landing URL retains the campaign tags you expect.

4. Build one coherent campaign

Use the campaign to group one objective and a budget. Use ad groups for meaningfully different buying situations, rather than producing a separate group for every synonym. For the studio, one group could address a freelancer choosing a workspace and another could address a small team arranging an offsite.

Write an ad and choose a landing page for each situation. Context hints should describe relevant conversations. They are not exact-match keywords or a promise of a particular placement. Keep the first structure small enough that you can explain why each ad exists.

5. Review the draft, then create it paused

In Advarde, open Campaigns and choose Create campaign. Enter the campaign settings, continue to the ad groups, and add the creative and destination. Save the draft before opening the review. Check the account, currency, budget type, dates, geography, bid units, every destination URL, and uploaded creative.

A successful create operation is not the same as an approved launch. Keep the initial campaign paused while you confirm the created objects and resolve any review or billing issues. Record who approved the final version. If a field changes after approval, review that change before activating it.

6. Review delivery and business results separately

First establish whether the campaign is eligible and delivering. Next check whether clicks arrive at the right page and the conversion flow works. Only then assess whether the traffic meets your business criteria. Low spend can come from several causes; increasing a bid before checking status and eligibility can obscure the original problem.

Set a review date and a maximum test spend in advance. Keep the offer, geography, attribution definition, and conversion event stable during the first comparison. When you change one of them, mark the date in your report. Do not treat a handful of conversions or a short period without sales as a settled channel benchmark.

Common questions

Can Advarde grant access to ChatGPT Ads?

No. Advertiser eligibility and supported features are controlled by OpenAI. Connect an account you are authorized to manage.

Do I need a large campaign structure to start?

No. Start with enough variation to test a clear hypothesis and enough simplicity to diagnose delivery and measurement.
